Our laser welding facility is housed in its own unit and operates seperately to the main business. Primarily aimed at tool repairs, but also suited to intricate welding of small components, scientific instruments and prototypes.
The welding process is carried out by skilled toolmakers by either manual or 3d guided laser. Small repairs can often be carried out “while you wait”. Slots as narrow as 1.2mm can be welded on their vertical faces and a weld seam can be less than 1mm in width. The ultra precise welds will not distort or damage the surrounding material keeping any sink to a minimum. Almost any metal can be successfully welded including copper and aluminium. Very thin materials can be welded practically distortion free.
We have 2 laser welding machines. Our larger laser station can either operate with manual guidance, or full NC control allowing small batch work to be carried out in addition to one off tool repairs. Fork lift access is provided for components up to 1M square. A laser welded tool often achieves a service life comparable to that of an entirely new tool.
